Food: fruit plate, wheat toast with jam, French toast, two egg breakfast with bacon. Delish big serving of fresh fruit. The wheat toast was thick with a delicious chewy texture and served with a really good jam. Service: friendly and lightening fast which was great because we were pressed for time. Ambiance: homey environment with tables and bar seating for singles. Would definitely come back for breakfast again when in town.

Food and service was great. Went for breakfast and had pancakes which were light and fluffy. Delicious, I will be back

Breakfast is astounding, I had the Salmon omelet with hash browns, it was so good. My wife had the eggs with corned beef hash(homemade), again excellent. The ambience is a breakfast cafe with such great service and attention. The food came out literally in like 4 minutes the way it should for breakfast and what we ordered. Shout from the hilltop it was so good

My husband and I had an absolutely wonderful experience at this cafe! From the moment we walked in, the service was impeccable. We were greeted with a warm "Good morning" and a genuine smile, which immediately set the tone for a pleasant visit. We were seated right away, and within seconds, our drinks were brought to the table--super impressive! Our server was friendly and attentive, taking our order quickly, and the food arrived in just a few minutes. It honestly felt like no time passed before we were enjoying our meal. The staff was constantly checking in, refilling our waters and coffee without us needing to ask, which we really appreciated. The food was absolutely amazing--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. It's clear that this place takes pride in both its service and its offerings. The staff was sweet and genuinely seemed to enjoy what they do, which made the experience even more enjoyable. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this cafe to anyone looking for great food and excellent service!

In town for a week, tried every breakfast restaurant in the area. Joanie's my favorite. Quick and very pleasant service, this breakfast spot feels more like a local's top choice as opposed to some other top choices on the Yelp list. Food was great, nothing fancy, just hearty wholesome breakfast place reasonable priced. Server said: "See you tomorrow?" when handed the check, already making me feel at home.

I was passing through Palo Alto and chanced upon this cafe, hungry for breakfast. The cafe is clean and pleasant. The service is fantastic. I ordered the medley, which gives you French toast, bacon, eggs, and hash browns. The eggs were poached easy as I requested. But I asked for my bacon to be cooked extra crisp, and it came to me chewy and uncrisp. The hash browns were crispy on top, which is the way they should be. The "Joanie's" French toast was average. Overall, a decent breakfast.

I have always loved Rick Sebak's PBS documentaries. It's the combination of quirky style and subject, and the nostalgia I have in watching them. They used to be pretty reliably shown on PBS, but now so much now. You can find some (not all) online and I recently had a hankering for this little indulgence. After watching "Breakfast Special," I started thinking about my favorite breakfast special and decided to look for a new place to try. Joanie's is not new in existence, but new to me. And sure enough, there it was on their menu: Joanie's Breakfast Medley, my favorite breakfast special. My party and I arrived at Joanie's a little after 8:30 on a Saturday and were quickly whisked to a table. It was in the smaller side area so I barely caught a glimpse of the restaurant as a whole. But I did much prefer this table, away from the masses and with a view out the California Ave window. The first server was prompt to the table to take drink orders. Coffee, tea, and orange juice. All had good flavor, plentiful refills were had on my coffee. After the drinks were brought, a second server took our food orders. Three Breakfast Medleys were ordered with slight variations--one with French Toast, one with bacon, and I substituted home fries for hash browns. The plates came out efficiently and were jam-packed. Pancakes were big and fluffy, eggs cooked just right. Sausage had good flavor and no gristle. Bacon was a hit. The hash browns were wonderfully crisp on top and soft underneath. Bell peppers are part of the home fries recipe. While not a favorite, they could be easily eaten around. The French Toast pieces were not nearly as large as the pancakes and could have done with an extra slice. Regardless, it was a lovely morning, an unusual treat, and I look forward to visiting again.

Great casual brunch spot on Cal Ave with amazing service! I ordered the feta omelette and requested a few substitutions (extra spinach instead of tomato and hash browns instead of toast), didn't get charged extra for either. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. We got seated as a party of 11 very quickly and would highly recommend this spot for a group brunch. Was also very pleased with the portion sizes and the amount of choice on the menu! 100% will return, prices are also very reasonable compared to other spots in the surrounding area.
